Questlove
Babies Makin' Babies II: Misery Strikes

In 2006, I was asked to design an album cover for Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson. The project was the second release in his Babies Makin’ Babies series, featuring rare groove tracks with melancholic and bittersweet vocals from Al Green, Ohio Players, Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta, Bobby Womack, Average White Band, The Delfonics and more.

I scanned some drawings he did for the album and had to make the album artwork resemble the first volume. I then created an entire campaign that consisted of CDs, LPs, Valentine’s Day cards, condoms, and posters.

The album was released February 14, 2006. Two weeks later, the distribution company closed. I always feared this was as good as it was going to get.

In 2018, the Savannah Tour of Homes & Gardens wanted to update their brand and their annual booklet, which accompanied the tours. I was more than happy to take on the challenge. After a few months of samples and revisions, they loved what I created. The only thing left was to tackle the booklet. It was a lot of work, and MANY late nights, but it turned out wonderful. I’m very happy to have worked with this organization.

Mama's Crumbs is operated by Bev Rousch. Bev has loved baking since a young age and was that girl who brought baked goods into her teachers to curry favor. Mama’s Crumbs are made in a commercial kitchen with a GA DPH Food Service Permit. Juan, owner of Rancho Alegre asked me to design a poster for his daughter, in an old 1950s, Betty Crocker style. It was a surprise for her. She's been baking under the company Mama's Crumbs for 25 years. But I made it look more like 60 years. I'm really happy with the results. And so were they. This video shows a little bit of the process and her reaction when she saw the poster.

I met DJ Juice E one night outside of Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe. She overheard me talking about designing flyers and she ran up to me asking me all about what I do. We exchanged numbers and she called me just a few days later. We were on the phone for hours. We had great chemistry. I started designing little party flyers and then it turned into flyers, album covers and I even maintained her website for a while. She has opened shows for notable artists and also started her own parties, like the famed Sucia Party. We became very close friends. I think I’ve designed more flyers and posters for her, than anyone else. What’s featured here are just a few! I’ve very happy to have been on this journey with her for over 12 years.

Capracare, inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to developing sustainable community health programs for the people living in Haiti. CapraCare, Inc. was founded in April of 2009 to address many of the health dilemmas faced by students in the rural community of Fonfrede, near Les Cayes, Haiti’s third largest city.
They began by providing preventive health care for children through the use of vaccines as well as providing low-threshold mental health education and counseling. When medical personnel were available, they would also provide basic medical care to the people living in Fonfrede and the nearby communities. They also provide a host of professional services ranging from access to basic medical care, preventive healthcare for women and children, prevention health education, social services, professional development training, low-threshold mental health education and counseling.
