In 2006, I was asked to design an album cover for Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson. The project was the second release in his Babies Makin’ Babies series, featuring rare groove tracks with melancholic and bittersweet vocals from Al Green, Ohio Players, Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta, Bobby Womack, Average White Band, The Delfonics and more.
I scanned some drawings he did for the album and had to make the album artwork resemble the first volume. I then created an entire campaign that consisted of CDs, LPs, Valentine’s Day cards, condoms, and posters.
The album was released February 14, 2006. Two weeks later, the distribution company closed. I always feared this was as good as it was going to get.
